Andrea Rossi – E-cat – A partial list of Rossi’s “Impossible Inventions” all Frauds and Scams

The family of Andrea Rossi had a viable business building incinerators for waste disposal. After Rossi decided to fly away and leave the nest, to branch out and go on his “own,” he has been involved in nothing but one scam after another. Here is a partial list of many of the frauds, scams, and “Impossible Inventions” (with a nod to Mats Lewan), of Andrea Rossi. The reader will find this list very interesting no doubt.

First Impossible Invention – Petroldragon

Rossi claimed he could turn waste into oil, coal, and gas.

  • Rossi claimed he could take 10 tons of normal organic waste, i.e., (paper, wood, plastic, food, tires, industrial waste, etc.), put it into one of his machines and 24 hours later he would have – 2 tons of crude oil identical to normal crude oil pumped from the ground, 2 tons of gas (not gasoline, but similar to natural gas), and 6 tons of coal, identical to the normal coal mined from the ground.

What happened with that technology?
After having Rossi’s patent evaluated for over a year the Italian courts ruled the patent was worthless and nonsense. All Rossi did was store toxic and hazardous waste in many place in Italy. As a result, Rossi spent over 9 years in jail, on house arrest, and on probation. Rossi was convicted of many crimes in relation to that project. Some of them were overturned by the courts but many were not. The clean up costs for all of the pollution caused by Rossi, paid by the local jurisdictions and governments is well over $60 Million Euro. Over 300 companies were charged with violations relating to disposal of hazardous waste as a result of their association with Rossi.

  • Rossi was convicted and sentenced to 8 months in jail on pollution charges; this was never overturned by higher courts.
  • Rossi pled guilty for some lesser crimes such as keeping false records, not paying taxes, etc. These were never overturned by higher courts.
  • In 1994 all of Rossi’s land and buildings related to his business were confiscated and sold or became the property of the local jurisdictions. Rossi lost all appeals for the return of his property. (This was the second confiscation, not the one in 1989-1990.)
  • All of Rossi’s permits and licenses to buy-sell-process waste were revoked.
  • Rossi was fined and paid hefty fines – $700,000+ (old lira).
  • Directly related to all of the above, Rossi filed bankruptcy, in relation to that, based on false testimony and false documents Rossi was arrested in 2000 for fraudulent bankruptcy. While still on house arrest in relation to the gold trafficking charges, Rossi had fled to the United States, but was arrested on a brief trip to Italy in relation to the thermoelectric scam. Rossi was sentenced to 8 years. Rossi dropped out of sight in 2000 and did not re-appear until 2008. As late as 2011, that sentence was never overturned by higher courts.

Second Impossible Invention –

While still on house arrest in relation to the gold trafficking charges, Rossi fled to the United States. There Rossi hooked up with the Bio Development Corporation, Bedford, New Hampshire. While “working” there Rossi claims he “realized an important plant for the production of charcoal from wood waste in Chicago.”

What happened with that technology?
This was during the same time Rossi was working on the thermoelectric scam. Rossi says he was just starting construction for this new plant, when he was arrested in Italy. Anytime a plant of this kind (it used a molten lead bath) is built in a city in the United States there are many permits and licenses that must be obtained before construction can even start, and all of these documents are public record. There is no record of any kind for Rossi or the company he was “working” for, relating to any plant in Chicago. All Rossi lies.

Third Impossible Invention –

While still on house arrest in relation to the gold trafficking charges, Rossi fled to the United States. There Rossi hooked up with the Bio Development Corporation, Bedford, New Hampshire. With connections Rossi developed while there, he started the Thermoelectric Scam. Rossi received a patent for a thermoelectric device, but only after the scam was over. Rossi claimed he had invented a commercial thermoelectric device that could convert heat to electricity at 20% efficiency when the best all the other commercial devices could do was 5-6%.

What happened with that technology?
Rossi and his partners were able to scam millions of dollars from the DOD and DOE, even though Rossi was arrested in Italy in 2000. The final DOE/CERL report on this scam was not published until 2004. Rossi never renewed his patent. No commercial devices were ever proven to work. When Rossi shipped 27 devices to the DOE most did not work at all, none at the claimed efficiency. The DOD/DOE refused to spend any more money on the technology.

The document “Application of Thermoelectric Devices to Fuel Cell Power Generation,” states:

“Nineteen of 27 TE Devices shipped to CTC, Johnstown, PA, were incapable of generating electricity for a variety of reasons, from mechanical failure to poor workmanship. The remaining eight produced less than 1 watt of power each, significantly less than the expected 800–1000 watts each.”

Here is a teaser to be included in the parts to this story still to be published:

Rossi and his partners told the DOD/DOE that his factory burnt down. We have proved that was a false claim, our documentation for this will be published in the rest of the story.

Fourth Impossible Invention –

In connection with the thermoelectric scam, Rossi claimed he could purify metals very inexpensively. Rossi claimed the thermoelectric devices required highly purified metals. Rossi claimed it was because of this and his “robotic” factory that they were able to build and sell their thermoelectric devices at a much lower cost than the competition.

We quote from our story:

Speaking of how Rossi and LTI can build and sell these for only $300 to $500 a kilowatt, they say:
06) Reductions in production costs are achieved by a series of innovations:
Instead of purchasing high-priced raw materials refined to a purity of 99.999%, LTI purchases lower-priced materials of 99.5% purity and uses their proprietary electric/laser refining process to process the raw material required by their process.

When you look at the difference in price between 99.5% purity and 99.999% purity metals, Rossi could become a multi-millionaire doing nothing but selling the rights to this process. There is a very large demand for highly purified metals.

What happened with that technology?
No patent was applied for, and there is no proof of any kind that Rossi could do this. This technology was pure fantasy and more lies.

Fifth Impossible Invention –

Rossi’s next scam after the thermoelectric scam was, and still is, the e-cat scam. However, the e-cat scam has many different claimed inventions swallowed up within it. Here is the first one.

Rossi claimed he could produce with a small device over six times the energy used to run the device. Rossi first demonstrated this device in January 2011. It used water for heat transfer and lead shielding for thermalisation.

What happened with that technology?
Without selling one e-cat, Rossi abandoned that invention in 2012, for his latest version, called the “hot cat.”

Sixth Impossible Invention –

Rossi claimed he needed enriched 62NI and 64NI in his e-cat. Because of the high price of those enriched isotopes Rossi claimed he had invented a process to cheaply enrich them.

Here are some quotes from Rossi directly, concerning this issue.

Dear Mr Gillis:
As a matter of fact we never found radioactive waste left after the operation, when we take out the used powders. This is due to the fact that the isotopes which are turned into copper are the 62 and 64 Ni. In thousands of tests we never found radioactive residuals. We take off the powders the day after the turn off.
Good question.
Warm Regards,
A.R.

Dear Prof. Kowalski:
After the experience we made at the beginning, we worked on the powders, so that only Ni 62 and 64 react. As a matter of fact, after a couple of hours we do not find radioactivity inside the powders; of course, for safety reasons, in the manuals we demand that the powders are discharged the day after, but during our experiments that’s what we found. Nevertheless, Ni + p is not the sole source of energy, in this you are perfectly right. When we will present our 1MW plant in October we will also disclose the theory that at this point we have understood.
Warm regards,
A.R.

Dear Dr Joseph Fine:
The stainless steel I use is AISI 316 L, which is an alloy of Ni,Cr,Fe: no Cu, so I do not think the wall of the readtor has been “sputtered”. The reason of the slight delta of the isotopes of Ni depends on the treatment we make to the Ni before the reactions, so that at the end of the work substantially 62 and 64 Ni have reacted and the final composition returns close to the normal, not exactly of course.

The treatment of the powders is part of the invention and is confidential so far: the difficult part of it stays in the low operational cost.
Warm Regards,
A.R.

Dear Mr Charlie Zimmerman:
1- I cannot give this information
2- No, I did not say that. There has been a misunderstanding. Is correct what you thought.
3- Ni 59 doesn’t exist. It is a typo. We buy regular Ni powder, then we make a treatment of it wich changes the isotopical composition. In that paper I referred to the powder as we buy it, not to the composition of the powder after the treatment we make. In any case, the composition of Ni, as we buy it, is well known: 58 (67,88%), 60 (26,23%), 61 (1,19%), 62 (3,66%), 64 (1,08%).
After that, we change it.
I do not think you misunderstood, I think some typo is in the translation.
Warm Regards,
A.R.

Dear Luiz Carlos:
1- I am not Professor. I am Phylosophy Doctor, with a Thesis on the Relativity, and this is important to underline, after some clowns have written in New-Bullshit News that I have not a Phylosophy Doctor degree.
2- We enrich the charge of the isotopes 62 and 64 Ni, with a proprietary system, very cheap to deal with.
Warm Regards,
A.R.

Dear Dr. Mario Voltaggio:
The answers to your questions have been given in this blog already, anyway, repeating rapidly:
1- The isotopic composition of Ni after 6 mo is slightly different, but the difference is also compensated from the enrichment we make in the Ni
2- The Cu produced is 63 and 65, because only Ni 62 and 64 react in this sense
3- the heating is due to the gamma radiation, which is contained from the lead shielding. The gamma produced in the reactor have mainly low energy. The reason of this will be clear when I will disclose the theory at the base of the process.
4- the medium by means of which the heat is exchanged with the water is the wall of the reactor, properly designed.
5- The patent of the invention discloses enough information to allow an expert of the matter to replicate the effect. In fact , many persons have replicated the effect using the text of my patent application. A totally different thing is the industrial secret regarding information useful to make a product with best performances.
6- Public demos were opportune for R&D purposes, and also for commercial purposes. Patent processes can take up to 6-7 years, and a private industry, not financed by the taxpayer, cannot wait. Therefore, maintains the industrial secrets, while the production takes place and the patent application is cropped.
7- The Journal Of Nuclear Physics is not dedicated to my process: most of the articles are indipendent from it, sometimes alternative.
Thank you for your sincere critics,
Warm Regards,
Andrea Rossi

Here again like in Rossi’s other false claim of purifying metals, if Rossi could separate (enrich) these isotopes cheaply as he claims he could become a multi-millionaire just off of this invention alone.

What happened with that technology?
Rossi does not need to enrich his nickel anymore his latest version of the e-cat does that for him, he claims. Rossi is now claiming with his latest report that his new e-cats do the opposite of his earlier claims, i.e. Rossi claims that highly enriched 62NI is now the final result of the e-cat operation. Of course like in all of Rossi’s other claims, no proof is given.

This story is documented here –

Seventh Impossible Invention –

In the latest version of e-cat in Rossi’s e-cat fraud and scam he calls the “hot cat,” Rossi does not use water-cooling, and does not use any lead shielding.

For details on its operation please see the two reports called:
“Indication of anomalous heat energy production in a reactor device containing hydrogen loaded nickel powder.”
“Observation of abundant heat production from a reactor device and of isotopic changes in the fuel”

What happened with that technology?
The status of the latest version is hidden, Rossi or his partners will not talk about it.

This story is documented here –
Just search the web for articles using the keywords relating to Rossi and the reports.

IN CONCLUSION:

So here we have a man who claims to have invented (7) seven marvelous and wonderful inventions, any one of which, if true, could have made Rossi hundreds of millions of dollars. And the e-cats, if they worked as claimed, would have made him billions of dollars. In addition at least four of these inventions, if they had been true, might have earned him a Noble Prize, two would have, without question.

But until Industrial Heat LLC  purchased the rights to the e-cat for a few million dollars, Rossi was hiding out in Florida, USA, selling licenses for the e-cat for a few thousand dollars a pop.
